1 Peter 5:8 KJV

The Devil's Wedge of Destruction has 3 sides: (1) Doubt; (2) Discouragement; (3) Deciet
Today, we examine how to overcome these things...

  1. Overcoming Doubt — Through Confidence in God’s Promise
    1. Hebrews 10:35–36 (KJV) “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.”
    2. Doubt is often the first crack the enemy drives into the heart of a believer.
      1. He whispers, “God won’t come through this time. You’ve waited too long. You’re not good enough.”
    3. But Scripture says — don’t throw away your confidence!
    4. The word “confidence” here means bold trust — the kind that holds steady when the answer hasn’t yet come.
    5. Abraham waited decades for a promise.
    6. Joseph trusted God through prison.
    7. Job held fast when he didn’t understand.
    8. Each of them faced the wedge of doubt — yet they refused to let it split their faith from God’s promise.
    9. When doubt comes, remember: God’s delays are not His denials.
      1. Patience is the bridge between the promise and the payoff.
      2. Stand firm — your confidence in God will be rewarded.
  2. Overcoming Discouragement — Through Renewal in God’s Strength
    1. Isaiah 40:31 (KJV) “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
    2. If doubt attacks your faith, then discouragement attacks your spirit.
    3. The devil uses discouragement to drain your energy and dull your passion.
      1. He’ll say, “You’re tired. You’re forgotten. You might as well give up.”
      2. But God says, “Wait on Me — I’ll renew your strength.”
    4. The word “renew” means to exchange — God doesn’t just top off your tank; He trades your weakness for His strength.
        1. When you feel grounded, He lifts you like an eagle.
        2. When you can’t run, He helps you walk again.
        3. When your spirit feels faint, He breathes fresh wind beneath your wings.
    5. Discouragement is a heavy tool in Satan’s wedge, but waiting on God removes it.
    6. Don’t stop praying, don’t stop serving, don’t stop trusting — your renewal is on the way.
  3. Overcoming Deceit — Through Assurance in God’s Truth
    1. 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 (KJV) “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”
    2. Deceit is the devil’s oldest weapon — he used it in the Garden of Eden and he still uses it today.
      1. He lies about your situation — making it seem worse than it is.
      2. He lies about your standing — making you think you’re alone or forgotten.
      3. He lies about your Savior — making you question His love.
    3. But Paul reminds us of the truth:
        1. “We are troubled… yet not distressed. We are cast down… but not destroyed.”
    4. That’s reality through the eyes of faith.
    5. The devil’s deceit says, “You’re finished.”
    6. God’s truth says, “You’re still standing.”
    7. Don’t listen to the liar — hold to the truth.
    8. Even when life knocks you down, God’s power keeps you from being destroyed.
      1. Stand on the Word when Satan tries to twist it.

The devil’s Wedge of Destruction aims to separate you from your faith, your strength, and your truth.

But the blood of Jesus breaks every wedge, and the Spirit of God fills every gap the enemy tries to open.

So, when doubt comes — stand firm in confidence.
When discouragement comes — wait for renewal.
When deceit comes — cling to the truth.

What the devil tries to split apart, God can make stronger than before.

Romans 8:37 — “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
